The US is perceived as theicon of western civilization and thus the education system in thecountry is best equipped to instill cultural competence in thewestern way of life. This is because the American culture appeals tomany people especially from Asian countries such as India and China.These Asian countries have for many years a national culture thatglorifies traditional cultures scores lowly compared to the moreliberal American culture. This American culture has been popularizedby American music videos, Hollywood films and TV that have giventhese foreigners a hint of American culture. For some parents, thisculture corrupts morals and thus should be avoided (Murchison &ampPejovich, 2012 Fasheh, 1984).

Parents,who hold a different view, perceive the American liberal approach toeducation a befitting. For this reason, they seek to send theirstudents to study in the country. Studying in the US thus gives thema first-hand experience in the American way of life and assists intheir self confidence and experiences in life. For many non-Englishspeaking countries such as China and Saudi Arabia, speaking Englishis associated with a higher social class. Those who can speak Englishwith the American accent are even more highly regarded. Therefore,parents in some countries send their students to study in the US as asource of prestige. When they return to these countries, they areheld in regard and their employability is relatively high (Zilian,2012).

TheAmerican lure is not all about the American English accents but alsoabout the prestige of learning institutions. The US is home to someof the best learning institutions in the world with top of the rangefacilities. For instance, the Ivy League institutions such asHarvard, Yale and MIT attract the best students from all over theworld (Smith &amp Khawaja, 2011). Additionally, there are elementaryschools, high schools and middle schools that offer top of the rangelearning experiences. For some of these institutions and especiallythe privately owned, they target the rich and influential in the USand from abroad. Therefore, for international learners who can affordthe high fees charged by these institutions, they enroll to enjoy thebenefits that they offer (Zilian, 2012).

Formost of these school located in urban centers, they offer betteropportunities for international students to develop into all roundedstudents. The wide range of subjects, courses and extra-curricularactivities available in American schools allow learners theopportunity to develop into all-rounded individuals and pursue a widerange of careers (Stephens, 2014). This situation also allowsstudents to discover and develop their unique skills and talents suchas playing the flute or even the piano. Major learning institutionsand private ones have better facilities to nurture a wider range oftalents than regular institutions. These institutions also offerscholarships to exemplary students in various categories such asmusic and sports.

Closelyrelated to proximity and ability to nurture talents is the fact thatthe American education system offers the best channels to harnessbudding sports talents and turn them into sports professionals. Thisis because schools have well developed sporting facilities and alsobecause the education system holds sports in high regard (Green, etal., 2008). For instance, The National Football League (NFL), theNational Basketball Association (NBA) and even the National HockeyLeague (NHL) are required by law to recruit young talents from highsschools. Popular sportsmen such as Lebron James in Basketball werediscovered for their talents while still in high school. Thisdrafting process gives new talents a direct path to be professionalsportsmen and women which may not be available in other countries(Suspitsyna, 2013).

Forlearners interested in formal employment, the US education systemincreases one’s employability. American learning institutions areheld in regard in many countries around the world. US employers arealso known to prefer employees who have graduated from Americaninstitutions because they tend to be already experienced in theAmerican culture which is critical in performing well in theirworkplace. This is very important today as many organizations aretaking advantage of globalization and expanding into foreignmarketers. Employees with high level of cultural competency andexperience in operating in cultural diverse environments are thuspreferred.

Thepresence of major international organizations and brands in the USalso offers learners a better opportunity to work in theseorganizations once they graduate. American colleges and universitieshave formed alliances with major employers to offer industrialattachment training for their students as part of the learningprocess. For Instance, Dell, one of the major brands in the computerindustry has an agreement with Sanford University to offer topstudents industrial attachments and the opportunity to work in thefirm upon graduation (Smith &amp Khawaja, 2011). This creates a goodworking relationship between learning institutions and the employers.Firms like Dell are very unlikely to have such agreements withlearning institutions in other countries.

The community,culture and social environment in the US is more accommodating todiversity and thus the US remains to be one of the most preferreddestinations for international students from all over the world.Although individual motivations for studying in the US may vary,there are common aspects such as quality of education, perceivedquality of American education, high regard for American learninginstitutions, better sporting facilities, American culture andincreased employability that drive many people to enroll in Americanlearning institutions. Nonetheless, the US can integrate talentedinternational students into the American workforce rather than sendthem back home. This way, the county will have access to the besttalent pool in the world.
