Fromthe experiment carried out by the flash and fire points by theCleveland open cup, the results clearly indicate that the cutback inthe experiment is highly volatile and highly inflammable. At aflashpoint of 800Fand a fire point of 1000F,the cutback can even be inflamed by boiling water. On the otherhand, regular Asphalt cement used in the experiment cannot be easilyinflamed in our daily activities because the flash point isrelatively high, between 5850Fand 5900F. This is also supported by an even higher fire point, between 6350Fand 6400Fwhich indicates that the Asphalt cement will support a fire whenexposed to temperatures well above 6350F.
Thedifference between the fire point and flash point in the cutback usedin the experiment is 200Fas opposed to the difference obtained in regular asphalt cement whichis 500F.These results possibly indicate that the cutback is twice as highlyinflammable as the asphalt cement. The cutback is also very volatilesince its flashpoint is a few degrees above room temperature.
Theseresults also show that cutbacks are potentially dangerous and caneasily cause a fire. However, cutback flashpoint will depend on thesolvent used to dissolve the asphalt. It is necessary to standardizethe use of such solvents [ CITATION Glo15 l 1033 ].

It is also evident from the experiment that cutbacks have lowerflash and fire points as compared to those of regular asphalt cement.From the results obtained, it shows that the cutback is aconstruction material that poses a high flammability hazard whileregular asphalt cement is a material that will support combustion ata relatively high temperature [ CITATION AST15 l 1033 ].
