Theadoption of the modern technology in the health sector has improvedefficiency in the delivery of health services. The electronic healthrecords system is used to store patient information in the digitalform as opposed to the hard copies (Herman, 2012). Electronic healthrecords improve the competitiveness of the health care facilitiesthat adopt it. In addition, electronic health records help the healthcare facility to reduce the cost of operation by lowering the numberof employees required to keep the health care records.

Ahybrid operating room is surgical technology that has been in use forthe last twenty years. Hybrid operating rooms are equipped withimaging devices (such as CT scanners, E-Arms, and MRI scanners) thatfacilitate minimally-invasive and less traumatic surgical operations(Herman, 2012). The hybrid rooms increase the accuracy of surgicaloperations and reduce injuries on patients. However, the high cost ofinstalling a hybrid operating room has reduced its utilization inmany hospitals and research institutions.

Digitaldiagnosis technology is one of the new advances that are being usedin the health care sector to enhance efficiency in service delivery.Digital diagnosis helps the health care professionals to diagnosepatients without the need to visit the provider’s office. Forexample, Neurotrack is a digital diagnostic technology that helps thehealth care providers to perform diagnostic procedures forAlzheimer’s patients by evaluating the movement of their eyes(Herman, 2012). Digital diagnosis has increased the accessibility ofthe health care services.

Thehealth facilities are in the process of adopting cloud technology asa measure to reduce the cost of operation. Cloud technology allowsmany organizations to share technological infrastructure for storageof data and other technology-based services. The data stored in thecloud can be accessed by members of staff located in differentbranches of departments of an organization. However, research hasindicated that about 13 % of the cloud services used in the healthcare sector is high-risk (Herman, 2012). This implies that patients’information and other confidential information can be accessed byauthorized persons from the cloud.

Healthcare robots are the most appropriate technological trends that thehealth care organizations should consider. Research on theapplication of robotics in the health care sector gives indicatesthat robotics increases efficiency and reduce the cost of deliveringthe health care services (Simshaw, Terry, Hauser, Cummings, 2012).Currently, robotics is being applied in a wide range of healthservices, including robotic assisted technology, in-houserehabilitation, robotic nurses, and eldercare robotics among others.Robots reduce the cost of care by reducing the number of employeesrequired to deliver health care services. The escalating cost of careand population aging will continue increasing demand for health carerobotics. The ongoing research will facilitate the use of cloudrobotics, which reduces the cost of care further (Miliard, 2015).

Althoughhealth care robotics give a promise addressing the issue ofescalating cost of care, this type of technology raises security andprivacy concerns. For example, telemedicine robotics facilitates therecording of medical procedures, which makes the preservation ofclient confidentiality a challenge (Kujat, 2010). Most importantly,these robots can be connected with other devices (such as smartphones and auxiliary data storage gadgets), which makes the processof retrieving data easy. In conclusion, the use of technology in thehealth care sector is inevitable, but the stakeholders need toconsider the security and privacy issues associated with each type oftechnology.
