Some of the mainfactors that may contribute to parents taking their children toeither of the schools include the schools academic reputation,religious belief and views, school size, location of the school aswell as the cost.

Alot of controversy has been raised over the private schooling andpublic schooling. Much of the controversy has been around the meritsand demerits of each of the different schooling plans (Black, 2013).The choice of which school to take one’s children is majorly leftin the hands of parents. However, before making the decision manyaspects have to be considered. This paper analyzes, compares andcontrasts public and private schools.Researchsuggests that private schools are more focused, dedicated and performbetter than public schools because teachers in private schools arepaid more salaries than their counterparts in public schools, thusmore job satisfaction and motivation, discipline is high amongstudents in private schools than those in public schools and theclass size in private schools is smaller than that in public schoolsenabling a teacher to address individual learning needs of everystudent (Garces, 2009).

Thesisstatement:in the United States, there has been the use of school vouchers,which has over time given offered parents the opportunity to choosefor either a private or public school of their choice using thegovernment offered dollars. School vouchers would result to an issueof equity, and equal opportunity in education in the country.

Thispaper will continuously use terms such as a public school, privateschool, and school vouchers. In a nutshell, a PrivateSchoolis referred as a school that is supported by a private organizationor personnel. These schools are also known as non-governmental,no-state schools or else independent school. One major characteristicis that, the schools under private ownership aren’t as controlledby either local, state or the national governments. On the otherhand, PublicSchoolsin the United States are schools that are supported by public funds,for the education needs of the community, which offers free publiceducation, i.e. primary and secondary schools. Finally, there is theschool vouchers which is a government funded voucher that is givento learners and is redeemable for tuition fee in any school apartfrom a public school, that the beneficially of the voucher couldattend free schools of their choice.

Themost pronounced difference between private and public schools in theUS can be narrowed down to cash. This in turn explains why theprivate schools are however more expensive than public schools. Thisis attributed to the fact that the government funds the publicschools (&quotPrivateversus public&quot).The public schools have the challenge of reduced funds than theyactually require due to their reliance on the government. Theseschools are majorly financed by the government through local, stateand federal taxes as no tuition fee is required. Conversely, privateschools have to look for a source of their funds. They have a varietyof ways to obtain these funds some of which include: educationalcost private allows and gathering pledges from folks, graduatedclass, and other group individuals (Garces, 2009). The best students, therefore, move to privateschools, leaving public schools with the challenged students. As aresult, the performance of public schools continues to deterioratewhile that of private schools improves. The voucher system is alsounfair to the parents who are in a position to pay for theirchildren. Despite paying fees for their children in private schools,they also pay taxes to run the public schools as well as offer thevouchers. This is like paying fees for three children while they onlyhave one.

Finally, the student populations tend to be morediverse. Thechoice between whether to take your child to a public or privateschool is multi-dimensional in nature with many factors having to beconsidered. Parents want the best education for their children interms of quality therefore most prefer the private schools, but theissue of fees becomes the limit. The school vouchers have reducedthis discrepancy benefiting hundreds of students. However, the publicschools should be considered as well. This is because all childrencan school in the private schools despite the existence of thesesschool vouchers. The vouchers take funds away from alreadyunderfunded public schools. Efforts should therefore be concentratedon improving the public schools so as to promote favorablecompetition with their private counterparts. Much of the funds shouldbe directed to these public schools rather than private schools so asto improve them. It is the responsibility of the government toprovide quality education for all and more so for the poor who cannotafford private schools. The government should therefore pay attentionto the quality of education in the public sector and concentrate onimproving it rather than using the private sector to improve thequality of education.

Theimplementation of the school voucher system has had both positive andnegative impact to the American education system. To the differencebetween the private and the public schools, the voucher has beenimplemented to bridge the gap between the two. Despite being asuccess to some point, the system has also impacted the quality ofthe education in both the private and public schools. However, thechoice for any parent as to which he/she would take his childrenremains to parent’s disposal, and as seen different factorscontributes to either choice. Moreover, the difference between thepublic and private school isn’t that much abs in turn the choiceof schools depends with parents and children’s desires.
