Overthe years, technological innovations have changed the way differentprofessions view the universe. Some things that formerly existed intheory have been made possible through technological innovation. Forscientists and entrepreneurs, the impact has been significantlydifferently.

Inthe case of scientists in the medical field, technologicalinnovations have made it possible to carry out complex proceduressuch as organ and tissue transplants. Transplants involvetransferring one healthy organ from a donor to a recipient who has afailed or damaged organ or tissue. Common organs that have beensuccessfully transplanted include kidney, lung, liver and heart withkidney transplants being the most common. The first organ transplanthappened in 1954 where the donor was an identical twin of therecipient. Over the years, such transplants involving a variety oforgans have been carried out even among people with no bloodrelations courtesy of technological innovations. Currently, there isongoing research on the potential of employing stem cell research indeveloping whole organs from an individual’s sample tissue (Shemie,2014). On the overall, quality of life has improved greatly and mayimprove further with time courtesy of more advanced innovations. Toscientists therefore, technology can be a pathway to immortality.

Onthe other hand, the same innovations have resulted into inhumane andimmoral practices in the name of science. Knowledge on genetics andheredity informed some of the evil practices of Nazi Germany. Thisregime used genetic science to label certain ethnic groups asinferior to others and thus eliminated the inferior races andindividuals. This led to the Holocaust that marked the death anddisplacement of millions of Jews and other perceived inferior people(Science as Salvation 2014).

Forentrepreneurs, technological innovation has brought in a new front inbusiness and business products and new ways of doing business. Takefor instance the achievements of IBM as one of the most recognizedicons in computer and related software markets. The firm has been atthe forefront in developing computer systems for several spaceexploration missions (IBM’s 100 Icons, n.d.). The landing on themoon is mainly cited as one of man’s greatest achievements in the20thcentury. For IBM and other entrepreneurial firms, technologyinnovations offer new business opportunities for growth. New productsdeveloped improve the quality of life. For instance, development ofgenomic sequence of cocoa is poised to improve farming. Efficiency isbusinesses in also promoted by effective decision support systemsthat were unavailable several years ago (ibid).

Onlarger scale technological innovations have changed how entrepreneursdo business. The development of computers, the internet, smart phonesand social media has affected how businesses handle theircommunication, marketing and also the type of products in the market.A good example is the rise of Facebook as one of the many socialmedia platforms. Facebook has emerged as one the most popular sitesfor people to interact through. Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder ofFacebook, noted an opportunity in the market and provided a newproduct that allows people to catch up and interact all over theworld across geographic boundaries. In fact, as of 2011 over 83% offortune 500 companies were involved in social media for marketingpurposes (Naylor, Lamberton &amp West, 2012). To entrepreneurs,innovations provide new opportunities for developing new products andchange the way of doing business.

Fromthe brief discussion and examples provided, it is clear to see thattechnological innovations may mean different things to differentpeople largely based on their professions. In this case,technological innovation has different implications on scientists andentrepreneurs.
